Getting Ready

Welcome to art class! Here we will be getting used to being in a classroom and working together. Students will learn about raising their hands, listening, taking care of their supplies, and more. Classical music, story-time, and stretch breaks will help keep these little artists feeling calm and ready to create. Students will learn to pay close attention as the teacher guides them step-by-step through art projects using a wide variety of media such as watercolor, pastels, markers, tempera paint, clay, and more. Focus will be put on teaching kids how to break down drawings into shapes, how to use and care for different supplies, and how to build confidence as an artist. Subject matter will include animals, landscapes, plant life, and much more. All levels welcome.

This class is taught by teacher Amy. It runs on Thursday from 1:30-2:30
Tuition is $175 for 8 spring classes.

6-8 year olds
Printmaking & Collage

In the spring version of this class students will try out some new types of art helping them tap into their creative side. The first half of the session will be spent exploring print making! Students will be introduced to both classical printmaking, and jelly plate printmaking; both great ways to explore shape, color, and contrast. The later part of the session will be used to create beautiful Eric Carle inspired art. With this project students will get the chance to explore color and texture with paint, draw and cut out their creatures, and collage paper together to assemble their final product. Focus will be put on learning the basics of color theory, taking care of their supplies, and learning about these news materials.
All levels welcome!

These classes are taught by teacher Kari & teacher Annie. They run Tuesdays from 3-4pm, and Thursdays from 1:30-2:30 and 4 - 5.
Tuition is $175 for 8 spring classes.

8-12 year olds
Paper Mâché Sculpting

For our spring session, we will be trying something brand new – a class on paper mâché! In this class we will creating a paper mâché sculpture of a decorative elephant or armadillo (your choice). Starting from square one, we will design our creatures, and build armatures for them. From there we will learn to mix our own paper mâché recipe, and start building. Paper mâché is a slow process, so we will spend several weeks building up our sculptures. Once finished we will paint the outside of these fabulous works of art and get them ready to display. Focus for this class will be put on designing and working in 3-D. This will be a fun one!
All levels welcome!

These classes are taught by teachers Maxwell and Amy. They run on Tuesdays from 4:30-6, or Thursdays from 3:30-5.
Tuition is $200 for 8 spring classes.

9 year olds - teen
Felting & Stitching

This class is a continuation of our fall and winter Hand-stitching & Textiles class. If you have not taken either of these classes, we recommend that you have some experience with basic hand-stitching. In this class we will work on a piece of artwork created entirely from felting and stitching. First we will draw out our plan, then we will use the technique of felting to turn it into a felted piece – think of a painting, but entirely felted! The next step will be using different types of hand-stitching to add details and embellishments to our artwork. This will be a fun way of combining our newly learned skills with our creativity. We will also have time in this class to add embroidery stitching to an article of clothing from home. Want to add a little flower to your jeans, or a frog to your hat? This class is the place for you. Come join us this spring for a fun and practical class combining great life skills with creativity! We advise that younger students have good hand-eye coordination as we will be using needles.

This class is taught by teacher Kari. It runs on Wednesdays from 4:30-6pm.
Tuition is $200 for 8 spring classes.

Join us as we explore the process of creating. We will be trying different mediums and getting lost in them. The focus of this class will be on exploration rather than projects. Get lost in brush strokes, blending, mark making, and sculpting as we explore watercolors, sumi ink painting, air-dry clay, alcohol ink, cyanotype art, charcoal, and more. Think of this class as a Zen art wake-up to break up your busy week.

Teens & Adults
Oil Painting Class - continued

This class is for students who have attended the fall or winter Wednesday night painting class. Or for students who have some experience oil painting (please inquire via email if you aren’t sure). In this class we will be taking a leap as artists and painting from photos and real life. We will start by painting a still life of shoes. Sounds easy, but painting from real life is tricky and teaches us to really see what we are painting. Our second project will be bringing in our own landscape photo to paint. A variety of different sizes of canvas will be available, so we can paint big this time. Painting from photos teaches us again to really look and see what we are painting, and incorporate our own style. Teacher Karen has years of painting experience and will help you along each step of the way.

Previous painting skills required for this class! Inquire if you are unsure if you are ready.

This class is taught by Karen. It runs on Wednesdays from 4-6pm.
Tuition is $250 for 8 spring classes.

Adults
Watercolor Painting - continued

This class is a continuation of our fall and winter watercolor class. It is recommended that you have attended one of those sessions before taking this spring class as we will be building on our skills. Inquire if you are interested but have not attended previous classes.
In this class long-time local artist Michael Heath will be teaching us how to paint classically with watercolors. Using a limited color pallet and just a few brushes, learn how to plan your artwork and paint quickly. Michael is an expert in PNW landscapes and has lots to share. We will work on painting from real life and from photo reference. At the end of the session, we will have a special field trip class where we will paint outside.
Come learn from a local legend!

In this class we will be using Arches watercolor paper, and professional quality paints and brushes. We supply everything. Because of this, our class fee is a little higher than our other classes.

This class is taught by Michael Heath. It runs on Mondays from 6:30-8:30pm.
Tuition is $270 for 8 spring classes.

Beginner Adults
Printmaking & Painting

In our spring session of the beginner adult class we will be dabbling in some new mediums. We will start by spending some time on different forms of printmaking. We will try our hand at gelli printing and explore using different objects to create patterns and images through printmaking. We will then try out cyanotype printing with natural objects on fabric to create a wall hanging. We will then move on to painting, creating a mixed media landscape with acrylic paint and oil pastels on canvas. We will talk about color theory learning to create a harmonious color pallet. If we have time at the end, we will continue exploring acrylic painting together with another small painting.
Join us as we tap into our creativity and explore new mediums and techniques together. No experience necessary!

This class is taught by Maxwell. It runs on Thursdays from 5:30-7pm.
Tuition is $200 for 8 spring classes.

Drawing & Fundamentals - continued

This class is a continuation of our Drawing & Fundamentals course offered in the fall and spring. Please inquire before signing up if you have not taken one of these classes.
This class is for teen and adult students looking it further develop their drawing skills. In our last classes we learned 1-point perspective. In this class we will be jumping into learning how to draw in 2-point perspective. How do you draw an A-Frame roof line in 2point? What about a row of windows? We will go over it all. With this project we will also work with ink pens and ink washes, drawing a local building and bringing it to life. In the fall and winter Drawing & Fundamentals we also learned the basics of drawing the human face and body. In this class we will be building on these skills and drawing a finished full body portrait from your own photo. Learn about proper proportions, how bodies move, capturing emotions, and more.

All materials supplied. Please bring your sketchbook from last session.

This class is taught by Amy. It runs on Wednesdays from 6:30-8pm.
Tuition is $200 for 8 spring classes.

Adults
Studio Painting Class

Come to our relaxed and inviting Friday Studio Class! Spring session is short (only 7 weeks) so this class will include one guided project, and the rest will be studio time to work on your project of choice. Work in either acrylic paint or oils (whichever you feel most comfortable in).  In this class we will help you learn new techniques, speed up your process, try new styles, work on brush control, color mixing, and more. It also means that students will be able to work on their own painting projects using our supplies, with a teacher here to assist you whenever needed. This class works well for students who use acrylics (or oils), and have some experience with drawing and painting. It is a chance to create art with others while having teacher Karen here to get you through any places in your artwork where you might otherwise be stuck. Come with ideas, you will be in control of all but one of your projects in this studio class.
Previous drawing skills encouraged for this class. Inquire if you are interested.

This class is taught by Karen. It runs on Fridays from 10:30-12:30am.
